Support The Village with your Time & Talent
When asked "how can I help?" it has always been my motto
that "If you can do it - and want to- then, we can benefit from it."
First and foremost, you must be willing
to know as much as you possibly can about the organization's Goals and Objectives so
that you eventually live and breathe what the organization is about and can speak
clearly, with an abundance of conviction, about it. After that, the rest is easy.
Let me give you some examples:
Fundraising: It is no secret that organizations receive
investments for their work (some call them donations) from people. Which
people? The people who have been approached personally by someone they know - who
knows someone they know who is directly involved in the organization. This "who
you know" principle can be 20 times removed from the person who actually has
the money.
Who do YOU know who knows somebody,
who knows somebody, etc. who will help the Campaign Chairperson, the Executive Director
or someone else on the steering committee get IN THE DOOR? Are you willing to ask?
Grant Writing: Grant writing takes certain skills - but it
isn't rocket science if the grant writer/organization has the right tools.
Can you write clearly, concisely and
convincingly? Can you follow (grant) guidelines - and read between the lines to decipher
exactly what it is they are looking for? Can you avail yourself of the resources
already available - some of which are already on this website? When can you start?
Research: Once we get the money we need, how will we spend
it frugally?
What information should we have available
BEFORE we start building? What topic are you ready, willing and able to start researching?
Do you like to spend hours on the computer? This may be an area of interest for you.
Dear friends, this is by no means an exhaustive list. As I said
earlier - if it's an area of interest for you and you are willing and able to do it -
then, just let us know. Thank you.
