Future of the Organization
As an extension of the existing programs and as a response to the need
for homes for older children who are languishing in the foster care system, St. Francis
Foundation, Inc. has studied the structure and activities of
Generations of Hope in Rantoul, Illinois, an Intergenerational Community of Caring.
With the intent of replicating that program, St. Francis Foundation, Inc. has already
begun planning the building of The Village at Everyday Blessings, with a
prospective completion date set for December, 2008.
At The Village, parents willing to adopt four children will temporarily reside in a
seven-bedroom home. One parent will be a stay-at-home parent and earn a salary. The
other parent will work outside The Village. Financial planners will assist the family
so that, once the new family is well established (no less than one year), the parents
will have set aside the funds necessary to make a down payment on their own home.
Singles and couples, ages 50+ who are willing to volunteer a minimum
of eight hours a week toward the mission of The Village, will pay reduced rent for a
two- or three- bedroom apartment. To the parents, the seniors of this community will
be mentors, listeners, and supporters. To the children, they will be nurturers, tutors,
cookie bakers, and so much more. To the Village, they will be groundskeepers,
seamstresses, administrative assistants, and so much more. In essence, they will be
community builders - the heart and soul of The Village at Everyday Blessings.
